What should I do if I’m involved in an accident or the car is damaged during my rental?

Auto accidents are not something that we like to think about, but they can and do happen, even to the most careful drivers. When an accident occurs, first ensure that you are in a safe area away from traffic. Next, contact local police (usually available by dialing 911) and complete an accident report.

An accident involving bodily injury must be reported to the police in the community in which it occurred. If another party is involved in the accident, please ensure that the other party’s contact information is included in the accident report and kept for your personal reference. That information will be required to complete a Budget accident report. You should then contact Budget 24-hour roadside assistance at 800-677-3681.

Upon return to the Budget location, you will need to complete a Budget accident/incident report and supply any accident reports from local or state authorities. Note that you can also access the Budget Accident Report form on our website, under the Claims tab.

If you purchased Budget Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) with your rental, your claims process is now complete. Loss Damage Waiver is an optional service which, if accepted, eliminates your financial liability for loss or damage to the Budget vehicle, its parts and accessories, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. Prohibited used of the rental vehicles will void optional coverage protections.

If you did not purchase LDW, you are responsible for any and all loss or damage to the car resulting from any cause including but not limited to collision, rollover, theft, tire damage, vandalism, seizure/medical condition, flood, fire, hail or other acts of Nature. In this case, you should contact your personal auto insurance company and establish a claim for damage. If you are renting with a major credit card, you may want to contact their customer service department to determine if coverage is afforded through their collision program. You do not need to wait to receive our claim documents to report your claim to your personal insurance company and/or credit card company.
